I do not know. However, I would recommend just borrowing or temporarily using an external harddisk to take a Time Machine backup then restore from that after formatting if you believe your problem to truly be caused by filesystem problems (versus application bloat, etc).

My Macbook has started booting somewhat sluggishly as well, but I don’t use Time Machine. Do you know if it will work similarly well when restoring from a cloned disk (from SuperDuper!)?
